You've scheduled your pressure washing service - great choice for your home's appearance and maintenance! A little preparation on your end helps ensure the job goes smoothly and you get the best possible results.
Here's your complete checklist for getting ready.
Clear the Area
Give your cleaning technician clear access to work by moving items away from surfaces being cleaned:
Outdoor Furniture
- Move patio furniture away from the house
- Roll up outdoor rugs
- Relocate potted plants from areas being cleaned
- Store cushions and fabric items inside
Decorative Items
- Take down hanging baskets and wind chimes
- Remove wall-mounted decorations
- Move any breakable garden decor
- Roll up welcome mats
Vehicles
- Move cars from the driveway if driveway is being cleaned
- Park vehicles away from areas being sprayed
- Close car windows if parked nearby
Toys and Equipment
- Store bikes, scooters, and outdoor toys
- Move grills away from the house
- Relocate garden hoses and tools
Close Windows and Doors
Even though we use appropriate pressure for each surface, water can still find its way through open gaps:
- Close all windows: Including second-story windows
- Close and lock doors: Especially screen doors
- Close garage doors: Water can spray inside
- Shut doggy doors: Temporarily block pet entrances
Check Seals
If you know of any windows or doors with poor seals, let your technician know. We can take extra care around those areas.
Protect Delicate Plants
We take precautions to protect landscaping, but you can help:
What We Do
- Pre-wet all plants before applying cleaning solutions
- Use plant-safe concentrations
- Rinse landscaping after cleaning
What You Can Do
- Move potted plants away from work areas
- Point out any especially delicate or prized plants
- Water plants well the day before service (hydrated plants are more resilient)
- Cover very sensitive plants with a light tarp if desired
"I always pre-wet and post-rinse landscaping, but if you have a favorite rose bush or rare plant, just point it out. I'll make sure it gets extra attention and protection."
Note Problem Areas
Walk around your property before your appointment and make note of:
Stains or Trouble Spots
- Oil stains on driveway
- Rust stains from irrigation
- Areas with heavy mold or algae
- Spots that have been there a long time
Potential Concerns
- Loose siding or trim
- Cracked windows
- Damaged screens
- Loose gutters or downspouts
Pointing these out helps us take appropriate precautions and set realistic expectations for stubborn stains.
What to Tell Your Technician
When we arrive, a quick walkthrough helps ensure the best results:
Essential Information
- Water source: Show us where to connect hoses
- Power source: If electricity is needed, show accessible outlets
- Gate codes or locks: If we need to access fenced areas
- Pet locations: Let us know if pets will be outside
Helpful Details
- Areas of special concern or focus
- Stains you want us to try to address
- Surfaces to avoid (new paint, delicate materials)
- Your schedule (if you need to leave, that's fine!)
What to Expect During Service
Here's what happens once we get started:
Duration
A typical house washing takes 2-3 hours. Driveway cleaning usually takes 1-2 hours. Full property cleaning may take 3-5 hours depending on size.
Noise Level
Pressure washing equipment is loud - comparable to a lawn mower. If you're working from home, plan for some noise during service.
Water Usage
We'll connect to your outdoor spigot. You can expect water usage similar to running a garden hose for the duration of service.
You Don't Need to Be Home
As long as we have access to water and the areas being cleaned, you don't need to be present. Many customers leave us a check and go about their day. We'll text photos when we're done!
After Service
- Surfaces may be wet for a few hours
- Wait 24 hours before sealing any surfaces
- Avoid parking on freshly cleaned driveway for an hour
- Enjoy your clean home!
